Gone Girl

Gone Girl

15 Oct Gone Girl

So I turned up to watch Gone Girl having not read the book. I didn’t know what to expect, other than the chance of some substandard acting because Ben Affleck was starring in it. Like I do with all films he stars in, I started singing ‘I need u like Ben Affleck needs acting school’, a quote from the Pearl Harbor song in trash film: Team America to my partner.

Having not given the film much of a chance, within minutes I was intrigued by the almost cryptic start and became more engaged as the story began to unfold. On his 5th wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports his wife’s disappearance. Having become the focus of an intense media circus, he sees the spotlight turned on him as Police, the public and even his sister begin to believe he is responsible.

It began as a he-said, she-said story that gradually built up suspense until it reaches a head in dramatic fashion. I don’t want to give away too much of the story as I strongly reccommend you go see this film. It did a stunning job of tormenting the audience, baiting us one way then another.  A combination of very powerful film-making and I have to say, brilliant acting by Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike will almost certainly grip you from the start to the very end.

Every once in a while, a film is able to live up to the hype that precedes its release. Gone Girl does this and more!
